Where are you going?
"O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps."
No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, there is a church that wants to offer you truth. At Northstar Baptist Church, we declare the truth found in the King James Bible, unapologetically, but with compassion and charity.
People come to Alaska for many different reasons: Some come for work, some come to play, some come for the adventure of the Last Frontier, some want to "get away from it all" or are running from their past. No matter what brings you to Alaska, you can be sure that even here, at the top of the world, in the frozen north, God can still find you.
"Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?" Psalm 139:7
God is seeking you. It doesn't matter if you don't believe in Him. The Bible says "I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me." Isaiah 45:5
He created all that you see to show you Himself, and if you ignore the witness of creation, it will witness against you. "For the invisible things of [God] from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse." Romans 1:20.
Why would God seek you? Because He made you, and He made you with a capacity to desire Him. When you fill that capacity with anything BUT God, you end up disillusioned with life, wondering what is the point of it all anyways? "Vanity of vanities...all is vanity." Ecclesiastes 12:8
If God is seeking you, what can you do to be found?
In order to be found, you will first have to admit that you need to be found, that YOU ARE LOST. "For the Son of man [Jesus Christ] is come to seek and to save that which was lost." Luke 19:10. You have separated yourself from God and his goodness by your sin. But it is the very goodness of God that will lead you to repentance.
"Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully." Psalm 24:3&4 God requires sinless perfection to approach him, and if you are a honest person, you will admit that the adjectives "sinless" and "perfect" don't describe you. The beauty is, you don't have to be sinless and perfect on your own to come to God, you just have to accept the payment Jesus Christ already made for you! God's own Son, born as a man, pure and spotless, died on the cross to make a substitutionary payment for all sin. "The blood of Jesus Christ His son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:7-9
"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." Hebrews 11:6 After you admit you are lost, you will need to believe that God can save you. This will take some faith in God's word. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17
If you will believe what God said, as it is written in the Bible, then call on Jesus Christ to save you. "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed....For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:8-11, 13
If you are seeking God, please let us know. We would like to help you to the Saviour. Don't put it off another day, because even if you don't know where you're going, the Bible tells you that there are only two eternal destinations: heaven and hell. If you have never called on Jesus Christ to save you then there is reserved for you judgment and punishment in a lake of fire (2 Peter 2:9, Revelation 21:8). If you have already trusted in Jesus Christ, then a reservation is already made for you, "an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you." 1 Peter 1:4.
