Children's Ministry

Sunday School

"Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord." Psalm 34:11. We believe children are a treasure from God, and that it is important to train them while they are young to love God and follow his commandments.  We have two Sunday School classes conducted during the Sunday school hour at 10 am: Little Lambs ages 2-5, and Elementary ages 6-12 (1st grade through 6th).  Kids will sing songs, memorize verses, and learn Bible stories and simple doctrines.

Master Club
"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Psalm 119:11. Master Club on Wednesday nights is a kids program focused on Bible memorization, with activities, games, and Bible stories included for fun. Kids ages 3 through 6th grade memorize verses, earning badges and growing in their faith.  For more information on the Master Club program visit

"And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?" Matthew 21:16.  For the littlest littles nursery is available at each service. There is a separate nursery available for nursing mothers to use.

"And [Jesus] said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things." Luke 24:46-48.

It is the duty of the disciples of Jesus Christ to obey his last command to preach the gospel, beginning in our hometown.  Northstar takes whatever opportunity we find to give out the gospel in our community, including the following:
~Public ministry, through tracting and street preaching. Luke 14:23, Isaiah 58:1
~Door to door visitation. Acts 20:20-21
~Juvenile detention center Bible study. Matthew 25:35&36
    ~Nursing home visitation.  James 1:27

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:" Matthew 28:19-20

Northstar is a church with a heart for missions and missionaries.  It was the desire of Founding Pastor Ron Robinson's to be a support base for missionaries in the Alaskan Arctic.  If you are an Alaskan missionary in need of housing, transportation, support, or fellowship, please contact us!  We want to help get the gospel into remote Alaska.

Beyond our monthly support of various mission works, we are honored to be the sending home church for four different missionaries, featured below.

Support for any of Northstar's missionaries can be sent to Northstar Baptist Church, designated by name.

The Bernick family was called out of Northstar Baptist Church in 2008.  They started in Point Lay, Alaska and ministered there for 6 years until the Lord moved them to the village of Wainwright, Alaska in the spring of 2014.  Ministering in the Alaskan Arctic is very unique and logistics are a constant challenge as most villages are not accessible by road.  The Bernicks have served faithfully in whatever the Lord has called them to do, broadcasting Bible teaching and preaching by radio, taking in needy children, responding to emergency calls, counseling domestic violence situations, and evangelizing nearby villages by snow machine and hopefully by boat in near future.

David and Jennie Robinson, missionaries in Malawi, Africa

The Robinsons first received the call to go to Malawi in the summer of 2005, while on a missions trip.  "Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:" Genesis 12:1.  They started deputation shortly afterwards, and in February 2008 they said farewell to their home church, Northstar Baptist, and flew to Lilongwe, Malawi.  After a year in Lilongwe, they saw the need for a missionary in Mzuzu, located in the northern part of Malawi.  Almost 10 years later, they have planted a church (now turned over to a faithful national pastor), established a 12 acre mission station and a Bible institute, organized evangelism tours to the unreached people of Northern Malawi, hosted summer Bible camps for youth, and are now endeavoring to minister to orphaned children through Northstar Baptist Church African Ministries.

Daniel & Holly Grotke, missionaries to Scandinavia

The Grotkes first came to Alaska in September 2001 as missionaries.  They ministered in Ft. Yukon for a year and a half before they relocated to Fairbanks.  For 15 years, they were at the backbone of Northstar Baptist Church, involved in preaching, music ministry, public witnessing, and evangelistic trips all over the state, but the Lord never allowed them to return permanently to the village.  In the summer of 2012, Daniel received the call to go to Scandinavia.  After selling their business and house, they began deputation in 2016, and they hope to be on their field by fall of 2018.

Caleb Buckman, Missionary to the Alaskan Natives

Caleb came to Alaska looking for adventure and instead found the will of God.  He started coming to Northstar Baptist Church in 2009 after getting a job on the construction crew of one of the church deacons.  Eventually, he decided to go to Bible school. After completing three years at Pensacola Bible Institute, he returned to Alaska in 2014 to work with Pastor Paul Robinson in the village of Point Lay for the summer, where they filled the pulpit that had just been vacated by Missionary Chad Bernick.  Caleb never left, feeling the call to be a preacher of the gospel in a small remote village at the top of the world.  Caleb has certainly found the adventure he came for, along with the sobering call to minister to the Native people of Alaska.
